Occupational Exposure Monitoring

SB Environmental provides occupational hygiene monitoring to assess employee exposure and determine compliance with relevant standards. Interpretation of results and advice regarding any remedial actions are all included in the service. Our proposal will be tailored to your specific requirements and will address the issues that are relevant to you. We aim to help you identify the problem, assess the situation in a proper manner that is validated to the appropriate standard and then evaluate the findings and decide on any actions required.

The cost of this service can be repaid many times by the savings that can be realised in the following respects:
  • A better working environment means a happier and more productive workforce.
  • Less waste and improved recycling.
  • Reduced liabilities from the possibility of claims.
  • Focussed approach to innovation.
  • Less time lost to sickness and ill-health.
  • Reduced risk of penalties due to non-compliance with legal requirements.
Some of areas that can be investigated are as follows:

Dusts, fumes and gases

Many of us can be exposed to a range of potentially harmful substances whilst carrying out our normal duties at work. There may be dusts, gases, vapours or fibres present in the atmosphere and without adequate control, we may inadvertently take into the body excessive amounts of these substances, causing ourselves harm in some circumstances. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) requires employers to prevent or adequately control the exposure of workers to harmful substances.

Many of these substances may have been assigned a Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) by the Health and Safety Executive in their publication EH40.

Harmful substances can be taken into the body by several routes including inhalation, ingestion and through the skin. There is a range of control measures available to prevent or adequately control exposure and the preferred option will vary according to the situation.

Control of exposure can be achieved in several ways and each method must be carefully selected according to the situation.

SB Environmental can carry out monitoring of airborne pollutants using a variety of accepted techniques to determine employee exposure and assess compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (2002).

If you are interested in any of the above or simply wish to discuss any other associated problem, please contact us. We feel confident we can help.
